The story takes place in Tokyo Butei High School, a special school where armed detectives — "Butei" — are trained to use weapons. The main particularity of the school comes from the fact that after the first five usual periods, the students undertake special training in order to learn the path of the Butei. In short, Butei is a national qualification permitting its holders to arm themselves and capture criminals. They were established to counter the worsening crime conditions and are specialised in various fields: Assault Division in gunfights, Ambulance Division in health care, Inquesta in information gathering, etc. Kinji Tooyama is a second-year-student who has a special ability, but he keeps it a secret to maintain an ordinary, peaceful life. However, when he is attacked by the Butei Killer, a notorious criminal hunting down Butei with passion, on the way to school. He encounters H. Aria Kanzaki, the most powerful S-Rank Butei student in Assault Studies.
